The Land of Calais

E-Book Review: The Land of Calais
The Land of Calais by Melody Grubb is the old-fashioned story of a young lady, Jeanne Adole, living in the time of the French Revolution. It is a tale filled with bravery and fear, trust and betrayal, love and hate. It begins with Mademoiselle Adole being rescued and taken to safety in England. What follows is an adventure filled with unanswered questions. Will Jeanne remain safe? Will promises-and her heart-be broken? Will the evil Chauvelin manage to destroy her family? Be inspired by the Adole family’s faith in God in the midst of horrifying events and cruel intentions.
I had never read a novelette in e-book format before and did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of writing. The book kept my attention and I finished it within hours of starting it. The characters are well done. I sympathized with the main character and intensely disliked the main villain. Jeanne is someone you can admire for her sincerity and loyalty yet she is not made out to be infallible. I appreciated that there was not too much description nor too little. The story kept to the plot and remained cohesive. It was wonderful to see Scripture and trust in God woven into the story without appearing “preachy”.
The Land of Calais is forty-four pages long. I think ten and up would be a good age range for this book. The Land of Calais is made available by Literary Maidens Publishing. Their stated mission is, “to bring back fiction of yesterday for today’s generation…to bring Godly, wholesome material for women of all ages, to the glory and honor of our Savior, Jesus Christ.” They have published three other e-books.
The Literary Maidens are giving away a copy of this Ebook to one reader.
