Portfofolio de Couturier: Fall Scarves

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm244/ggmstaff/Article%20Graphics/PortfoliodeCouturierbanner.png

A few weeks ago I saw the beautiful fall scarves Mrs. Ruth had crocheted for her daughter, and so I asked her if she would show us, step by step, how she makes them. I was thrilled when she agreed to do so AND to give one away, though after reading her tutorial I'm sure you'll be anxious to make your own! Read below for more details on how to enter the giveaway!

Drop-Stitch Scarf Tutorial
I found this fabulously easy scarf pattern online at www.crochetme.com. It is a free online magazine for crochet. I fell in love with this style of scarf and its simplicity. I hope you enjoy making this scarf. It is one you will love to share with others. I have included some tips throughout the pattern that have helped me.
Supplies:
3 balls of Lion Brand Incredible ribbon yarn (or similar brand)
Size K/6.5 mm crochet hook
Abbreviations used in this pattern:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
yo = yarn over
st(s) = stitch(es)
sp = spaced for books too
and i coudn

Begin

TIP: This patterned looks best when it is worked loosely. A very loose tension is recommended.

Ch 10

Row 1~ Sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across, ch 1 turn

TIP: The ch 1 is a turning stitch, do not count this as one of the stitches in your row. Do not work in this stitch unless the pattern states it.

Rows 2 and 3~ Sc in each st across, ch 1 turn

Row 4~ Draw up a loop about 1 inch long, yo and draw loop through st on hook, ch 1 (this locks the long loop in place) *insert hook in next stitch, draw up a loop, yo and pull through both loops on hook, ch 1 * repeat until the end of the row, turn

TIP: Be sure that you finish this row with a ch 1 to lock the last loop in place. This will count as your turning stitch also. Do not make an additional ch 1.

Row 5~ Sc in each ch 1 sp between the loops (8 total) the last sc of this row is worked in the original loop that was drawn up in row 4, put hook through the two loops of the yarn on the end and work a sc, ch 1 and turn.

Rows 6 and7~ sc in each st across, ch 1 turn

Repeat rows 4-7 until the scarf is the desired length (around 70 inches is the usual length but it can be adjusted to your taste). Make sure that the row scarf is finished with a row 7.

This scarf can be worked in other yarns for a different effect. Experiment with different types of yarn. It will look like a completely different scarf. You can create many different variations with this pattern. Be creative and enjoy.

Here is a scarf I've already completed...

What a great giveaway! I hope it's okay that in addition to the icon, I put the picture of the scarf on my blog so readers can see how beautiful it is and be inspired to enter the giveaway and try making one of their own.

What I love the most about fall is experiencing it through my children. They get so excited about the leaves changing colors, pumpkins and mums everywhere, the smell of apple cider at the local farmstands. I especially enjoy using the beauty of this season as a teaching tool to explain to my kids how amazing God is.

My thoughts on Fall...

I love the cooler weather and hint of 'crispness' in the air, the taste of an apple ripe from the tree, the smell of burning leaves (if not too pungent), orange pumpkins, soft sweaters... I could go on and on. :)

Thanks for this contest! I need to sit down and work on following Mrs. Ruth's instructions!

I added the button to my sidebar, and I blogged about the contest.

What Fall means to me? Well fall is the sean right before winter. It is like a a front door entering into a house. You don't know what is going to be behind that door, but you do know that what ever it is you will not have to fase it alone. Fall is the season leading to winter. Were you may not know what is coming but, you know that even if it is a bad snowstorm that takes your powere out, or if an illness hits. You know that God is always going to be there for you. Every season is a door into the next season. Seasons full of Joy, love, and sometimes sorrow. But every season has God in them. That is what fall and every season means to me.

What I love about Fall?
The colors, the fragrance, the crispness in the air. The shorter days and longer eve's. Just nice to cuddle up with a good book, cup of hot cocoa and just read away, with the cold outside and the open fire on.

Hmmm, I think my most favorite thing about fall is the cooler weather and decorating. I helped my mom do some things this week and it was so nice to spend time together. The colors are bright and beautiful, too!

God bless,
Victoria

These are beautiful and look so fun to make, I may try the fuzzie kind of yarn so my mistakes are hidden heeheehee. Seriously they are great. Fall, means new wardrobe to me, well sort of new, I get to pull out my winter clothes. In that box are favorites and some clearance items I picked up in spring when it was to warm to wear them, so it is like getting new clothes twice....

I love fall. It is my favorite time of year. The heat of summer is gone and as the trees push off their leaves so do out troubles get pushed off.
The colors are not as harsh as summer colors.
