National Jelly Bean Day

April 22nd is National Jelly Bean Day. Jelly beans have been in America since the 1800′s. They used to be sold as penny candy in stores. Jelly Belly has over 50 flavors. What is your favorite flavor? Some interesting ones are Toasted Marshmallow, Tutti-Frutti, Buttered Toast, and Chocolate Cherry Cake.

You can go here to learn more about Jelly Belly jelly beans and take a virtual tour of the factory: http://jellybelly.com/Cultures/en-US/default.htm

Here is a jelly bean prayer poem: http://www.dltk-holidays.com/easter/jellybean.htm

Did you know that President Ronald Reagan really liked Jelly Belly jelly beans! He had a jar of them on his desk in the Oval Office and he had some sent to the astronauts aboard the Challenger.

~It takes 7-10 days to make a batch of jelly beans.

~Approximately 40 million jelly beans are sent out from factories each day!

How many jelly beans do you think are in this jar? Just give your best guess!
